Montclair, N.J. (Essex County) physician, John J.H. Love (1833-1897), joined the Civil War first as a colonel in the 3rd Regiment Essex Brigade, and later (1862-64) as a surgeon in the 13th New Jersey Volunteers. He served at the battles of Antietam Creek, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Cumberland Gap and Williamsburg.
